Pest Control Horror Stories
From time-to-time, you’ll probably come across pest control horror stories in the press. This isn’t a new occurrence but it reminds us that pest control problems are an everyday event but some are far more concerning than others
Greater London has had its fair share of pest control horror stories in recent years. Due to the close proximity of the urban area and a population that is fast approaching 9 million inhabitants, it is unsurprising that this is the case.
We thought it wise to collate a few of the worse pest control horror stories from the Greater London area. In doing so, it emphasises how important it is to use a professional pest control company.
East London School Infested With Spiders
In October last year, it was reported that a school in east London – Eastlea Community School – was infested with false widow spiders, who are known for their dangerous bites which can cause severe health issues and even death if left untreated. The secondary school was forced to shut for two and a half weeks whilst the school was treated by a pest control company.
Whilst a relatively rare occurrence, cases of dangerous and exotic spider infestations have been on the rise, especially in the London area, where travelers returning from more tropical climates, inadvertently return with dangerous spider species. In the rare chance that this does happen, contact the local authorities and a professional pest control company.
Bed Bug Backpackers
Bed bugs are renowned for being hardy travelers in the pest control world. They are able to survive for extended periods of time without a meal, so a long-haul flight in a bag is not unheard of occurrence.
If you’ve been staying in a hotel or hostel, there is always the chance that bed bugs may have hitched a lift in your clothes and bags. There is always a spike in bed bug infestations in the summer months as a consequence of this.
If you suspect that you have a bed bug infestation, we are able to provide a number of treatments to combat their presence. One of the most effective methods that we can employ is heat treatment. Using a complex system of sensors and heaters, bed bugs can be eradicated fully – diminishing the chances of them ever returning.
McDonald’s loving rats
Another eye-catching story from last year was the footage captured by startled customers at a branch of McDonald’s in Croydon.
The alarming footage shows staff shewing a single rat out of the branch in broad daylight using mops and brooms, whilst understandably shocked customers looked on.
In a city such as Greater London, the rat population has always been high but daytime sightings are not as common as you would think. That is why the footage of a rat scurrying around in the daytime through a busy shopping centre location was so surprising. Rats are normally elusive and prefer to stay hidden whilst hunting for food and shelter.
In the summer months, rat sightings and reports of infestations increase dramatically. This is due to rats venturing out of their winter shelters – which are often commercial and residential properties – to escape the increase in temperatures. Additionally, they are also attracted to the food waste left by park-users enjoying the sunlight and longer days.
With the correct application of pest control measures, any rat infestation can be handled swiftly and effectively by trained professionals.
If you suspect that you have an infestation of any type of pest in either your residential or commercial property, then the best course of action is to contact a professional pest control company for an effective and swift resolution.
